When a family of five purchased a sprawling 10,000 square foot residence on Chicago's North Shore, they knew they had a big design challenge ahead of them. How do you create a functional and beautiful home that takes advantage of all that space? That's where Emily Mackie and her team at Inspired Interiors came in.
The team overhauled the kitchen, living room, dining room, lounge area and bathrooms, to give each space a new purpose while still serving unique functions.
The previous kitchen design included an awkward two-tiered island that impeded the flow of the room, but the new design combines warm wood elements with refreshing white cabinetry and marble countertops, enhanced by elegant gold accents. It now functions as a combo kitchen and eat-in space with a well-thought-out island and dining area that overlooks the backyard and pool.
The great room media wall was transformed into a rootwood teak-clad feature wall that is itself a large-scale piece of art. The media wall leads to an airy lounge area, complete with a refurbished bar, that makes the most of the large home's space for entertaining friends and family.
The dining room was transformed from an unused furniture graveyard to a warm and inviting space that is primed to host dinner parties.
Guests can gather around a 14-person table with lush velvet seating that is illuminated by twin chandeliers. A detailed wooden room divider helps to fill the space while adding an intimate element to the design.
Clean lines and simplicity were incorporated into the bathrooms. Not not compete with the overall architectural design of the home, but rather create classic spaces that elevate their essential functionality.
